I'm a Norwegian woman living in Italy. Some days ago a teenager asked me if we had colour tv when I grew up. And when I had to confess that our tv was in black-and-white it made me feel like I was born in the stone age... However, this got me thinking about how the world is constantly changing without us realizing what's going on. Cellphones, computers and all those little gadgets we're so addicted to. What did we do without them? How did we manage? Anyone who remember?
I grew up in the 1960s and -70s and since then a lot of things have changed; the standard of living, fashion, what kind of music did you listen to and what did people eat since pasta and pizza wasn't "invented" yet? (At least not in Norway...) And what did people do in the summer; where did they go on holiday? I mean without the charter-flights and all...
These are just a few things I can think of right now, but I know the list is longer - way longer. So, I wan't to challenge the people "out there" to write something about what you remember from growing up. If you add pictures it will be even better. Imagine how fun it can be if we're able to see pictures from all over the world on this blog; from Norway to China to Greece and Italy and Australia and India - and of course all the countries that I haven't mentioned....
I would also like to challenge those who write a post for the blog to pass the challenge on to friends and family and colleagues - in this way the blog becomes a kind of a "chain-blog". So, spread the word about the blog, mention it on Facebook and Twitter, send the link to someone you know, tell your neighbours and the postman and everybody else you can think of....
I look forward to reading about what other people remember from "the good old days" ... And in additon, it might be fun for our children to read about how their parents and grandparents grew up.
Please send your memories to memoriesaroundtheworld@gmail.com and I will publish them as soon as possible.( It might be a good idea to "watermark" your pictures before sending them to me.)
We are all waiting to see how you and others looked like all those years ago... And you're also more than welcome to share pictures of cities or other public places with the readers of the blog. I want to see London and Barcelona in the 1930s, New York and Johannesburg in the 1940s, Paris and Cairo in the 1950s, Athens and Sydney in the 1960s, Rome and Palermo in the 1970s and so on... If you want to show pictures of your great grandma, feel free to do so. Anything goes....
So what are you waiting for? Hurry up and go hunting for the shoe box with all those old pictures! Thank you.
